The Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Program is no longer accepting new students into the program. Those students already in the program will be allowed to complete their degrees, and will be under the guidance of the Chair of Undergraduate Studies for Materials and Metallurgical Engineering. The program is accredited by the Canadian Engineering Accreditation Board until 2001.
Students in the Class of 2002, and subsequent classes, should note that a new Materials Option is offered by the Department of Mechanical Engineering. Details on this program can be found in this Calendar in the section dealing with the Mechanical Engineering
Curriculum.
Materials and Metallurgical Engineering Curriculum
(Students in 4th Year are normally required to take part in the Departmental field trip. This is to industrial sites in Ontario and Quebec and occasional visits to other sites just over the border in the U.S.A. The Canadian Institute of Mining and Metallurgy provides approximately a quarter of the cost of transportation and accommodation to student members. The student must provide the remainder)

NOTE Minimum units must be taken in fourth year to be eligible for Scholarship Standing. Honours Standing requires at least 1035 units in the last four consecutive terms or the attainment of a Cumulative Average as per Regulation 9.
Complementary Studies
The minimum number of complementary study units for this program is 288. (See section on Complementary Studies for details.) Core courses in the Materials and Metallurgical Engineering program contribute 72 units toward this total, 48 in Communications
and 24 in Management Studies.
