Integrated Educational Development
Integrated Educational Development is intended to:
- raise awareness of educational issues
- encourage and support staff in curriculum development
- facilitate research into educational issues
- facilitate an educational development network of staff and students from all departments
TA Training
- This is a 1½ day training session for new teaching assistants. The main aim of this training session is to improve student learning via enhanced TA awareness of pedagogical issues and development of new skills which could be apply to any future career. This is not to replace current departmental orientation with new TAs or to replace the one-day training session offered by the IDC.
- The last TA Training session was held January 14, 2009. The date for the 2009/10 academic year has not been set yet. Please check back to this site for updates

Faculty Training
- New Faculty Training - All new faculty who have started with Queen's University are invited to participate in this 2-day training session. Components of the sessions will include a range of pedagogical areas:
- Assessment and evaluation
- Teaching approach
- Laboratories
- Learning objectives

Reflection on Education Provision
- The Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science - The mission of this review was to ensure we provide the most advanced, effective, exciting educational experience to our undergraduate and postgraduate students on global standards. This review included various stakeholders including faculty, students, support staff, alumni, etc.
Workshops and Seminars
- Adhoc Workshops for Departments/ Faculty / Students - Half-day to 2-day long workshops will be offered on a variety of topics by a series of facilitators. Please forward any suggestions to Caroline Baillie. Some potential topics: Postgrad Supervision, Creative Thinking, Laboratory Classes, Community Projects
- Engineering Education Workshop Lunches / Speaker Series - The aims of the workshop lunches are to disseminate good practice in education and discuss implementation in Departments. Faculty is encouraged to share best practice in engineering education. Also, international guest speakers are invited to share their experience on their engineering education development.
Ongoing Educational Support
- Individual Support - faculty are advised on educational approaches and suitable literature and sources of funding.
- Resources - a web site with links to educational resources is being developed. Journals and guides on teaching and learning for students and faculty are available upon request. Also a list of resources is available.
- Class swap / peer review - sit in on classes of other teachers and compare notes. We can arrange this (like a dating agency!)
- Evaluation of teaching - individual teaching or course evaluation advice given upon request.
- Research - advice and support given for faculty interested in engineering education research (projects, funding and publications).
- Department Consultancy - This may take the form of consultancy regarding course design, observation of a lecture with feedback, advice on assessment methods, or help with the evaluation of teaching.
- Teaching Development Grants - to promote excellence in teaching which is focused on student learning.
- Creative Universities - an ongoing project to encourage creative thinking - training, books and advice on request.
